Collaboration with NPWS: Green and Gold Bellfrog Habitat Planting Day
Date: May 2025
Litoria aurea Habitat Hustle: The Bush Regenerator’s Day Out
In partnership with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Saving our Species Program
On Saturday 31 May 2025, ReGen Alliance hosted the Litoria aurea Habitat Hustle — a hands-on bush regenerator’s day out dedicated to supporting one of Australia’s most iconic endangered amphibians: the Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea).
Set on Ash Island and delivered in collaboration with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), this event was part of the Saving our Species (SoS) program’s long-term strategy to recover bell frog populations through habitat enhancement and connectivity.
Guided by frog ecologists from the University of Newcastle, this planting day supported newly installed artificial habitat ponds — designed to provide vital water sources during drought and improve movement corridors between the fragmented northern and southern bell frog populations on Ash Island.
🌱 What We Achieved:
300+ native wetland plants installed, including sedges and rushes essential for frog shelter and breeding
Youth-led bush regeneration and ecological restoration activities
Community engagement in threatened species recovery
Habitat improvement around artificial ponds to support long-term frog survival
This was more than just a planting day — it was a powerful example of what’s possible when science, youth action, and community care come together to protect biodiversity.
